present a discussion of some of the types of mineral production royalties and mining
interests that are typically carved out of the minerals estate for land owners, joint
venture associates, and others. Some types of mineral production royalties include Net
Smelter Return (NSR), Net Revenue Interest (NRI), Net Profits Interest (NPI), sliding
scale royalties that depend on the ore grade or quality mined, or the level of price
received for the mineral. Some information is currently available from an article that was
